I see kits available in auto parts places that say they are specific to certain
types of repair. I know one of them
is for plastic tanks. You get a bit of epoxy type stuff to mix up and a small
bit of cloth. I think the
instructions call for cleaning and sanding a bit and then just smearing the
stuff over the cloth. I have yet to do
this on a plastic tank but we did use one of these kits intended for gas tank
repair to make patch as small hole in
a gas tank on an old Jeep a year ago and it has held up fine so far. I think
the brand name on the one we used was
Permatex.

Subject: [MBZ] what adhesive to use for expansion tank

I broke a vent line nipple off a fuel expansion tank on my Vanagon.
The plastic is kind of a milky-white, slightly waxy feeling. Is this
polypropylene? Anyway -- what adhesive would be good for repairing
this? I plan to try inserting a bit of thin-walled tubing for
reinforcement, then gluing the nipple back on. It did not break off
right at the base, so I think this will work.

Is this a job for Shoe Goo?
