But if people want kids so bad shouldn't they be able to afford it first?

If I don't want kids why can't everybody else subsidize my dog? I've got to pay
for the brats in the neighbor hood to go to school so they can grow up to be
drug dealers and prostitutes why can't I get paid for Buster to go to doggie
daycare?

We've got this little problem of worldwide overpopulation which is pushing up
the price for everything, how does it make any sense to subsidize an increase
in that problem?

Did your parents receive those same tax credits for you? I'm betting they
did.
Our society for many years has understood that raising children is expensive
and it is a good and moral thing to subsidize those expenses.
If you disagree, you should work in the system to change it.
