Isn't there a hand-operated expander for PEX, also?  'Think I've seen one.
'Stick "nipple" end of a pliers-like tool in the end of the pipe, squeeze
the two pliers-like handles together with ratcheting motion to make the
nipple expand to expand the pipe, pull nipple out, slip expanded end over
fitting, etc.
