Kaleb, the DS has to come apart to replace the center support bearing. First mark the two halves so they mate back to the same splines. Remove the short shaft (front), disconnect the three bolts that connect the tail to the differential yoke leaving the flex disc in place. Now remove the two bolts that secure the CSB to the cross member and 'pull' the DS out the back. You might want to cover the splines with a piece of old hose to protect them. With the DS out you will need to remove the retaining clip that secures the bearing assy to the shaft. With the clip removed the old bearing needs to be removed (the rubber support will about fall off out of the way). I use an old tire tool to drive the old bearing off of the shaft. It is a snug fit and a little WD-40 or such may help it slide off. Once off the new assy can be put on. I use a piece of pipe the proper ID to drive and seat the new bearing. Pay attention and don't put it on backwards which is kinda hard to do but is just a word of caution. Put the retaining clip back on, it will slide on and drop into the groove providing that the bearing is seated. Now just do everything in reverse, don't forget to align the splines, and you will be set to drive a much quieter and smoother MB....

Had everything apart today to replace the cracked back plate on the tranny on my 81 wagon and noticed alot of play in the driveshaft support. Looks like the rubber is pretty much shot. How does this come apart? Just upscrew the 2 bolts and the carrier slides out from the end or what? Any tips would be helpful.

Thanks
