Does any major company develop anything on their own? No and Mercedes does not either. Even the "original" Mercedes diesel engine is not a Mercedes design. It's a partnership between Mercedes and many others. Why do you thing the IP & injectors are Bosch - and who makes the pistons? Not Mercedes!
