Yeah, I'm hoping it is nothing too bad but am braced for the worst. We had the extended warranty for it but I think that was only good for 3 years and it must be 4 years old now. I have had little luck trying to deal with HP on a warranty issue. We had a printer that broke and they pretty much ignored our requests for asistance. It was a very common problem and there was lots of information on the web about how to claim for it but all we seemed to get was an ability to sit on the phone for hours waiting for someone to tell us we needed to contact someone else. One can only spend so much time chasing them on a printer that is not worth more than a couple of hundred bucks. Still angry about it though as it was obviously a defective part and not abuse on our part. The thing only ever had one set of ink cartridges through it in the space of a year and when we tried to put new ones in, it wouldn't work. Had to buy another one of their junk printers as there is little choice in the wide format printers.

Fortunately it was under warranty when I contacted HP and they said it was my motherboard that went. They ended up replacing the cpu along with it and so far its been running good. I hope thats not your problem and if you got recovery discs with it I would try them first. If not you can get them from HP Harry M 69 280 SE 72 350 SL 08 VW Passat 3.6 -----Original Message----- From: R A Bennell <b...@mts.net> To: Mercedes Discussion List <mercedes@okiebenz.com> Sent: Mon, 5 Jan 2009 11:06 am Subject: [MBZ] OT Laptop problem We have an HP Pavilion zd8000 laptop - about 4 years old. Has always been reliable. Yesterday something went wrong. It beeps (ie - beep, beep, beep - for a long while ) on startup and the keyboard appears to be dead. The screen comes up offering info on what to press to get into setup etc but pressing the keys does nothing. If one waits it will go to the screen that offers windows options for startup like safe mode but again the keys do nothing so one cannot get it to go any further. Any ideas on what I might check first? IE- are there any fuses or that sort of thing that might have popped? Any ideas on web sites that I might go to with my problem?
