Incorrect. "Trumpet in Bb" means that when the instrument plays a
written C it sounds to the ear as a Bb. If I'm playing trumpet with a
concert pitch instrument (i.e. piano) I need to play the written music
UP one whole step.

Trumpet is a B flat instrument; which means that when a piano plays B
flat the trumpet plays C natural. Write out the melody one full step
above the hymnal and join in the fun.
Since the trumpet plays 1/2 step higher, shouldn't the transposition be
1/2 step lower?
