Denouement should have been italicized - sorrry. This was my attempt at keeping up with the sophisticated chatter that characterizes this group. ;)
Anyway, I did mount the new filter on the new bolt, and all went well, except that the car would run and die even though I primed the little pump. So I disconnected the filter to make sure it was full of fuel [it was] and re-primed until my arm just about fell off. Then I started the engine again and it purred like a kitten without dying. I love these cars. In my defense, I inherited an abuse problem from the PO, who was probably a butcher. The bolt that went south had been giving me fits since day 1 of owning this car, 10 years ago. The very first time I attempted to change the main fuel filter I neeeded a wrench to keep the filter from turning along with the bolt. And after installing the new filter, fuel leaked from the filter-canister interface.
