Yes, just observe the settings before you change them and write down the original settings. It is easy to go back and reverse the changes

You can also set up other user accounts, so you could have one user account for the fake Mac and and other user for the windows 2000 interface. There are other settings that make it look like the XP bubble gum interface. But i think you will like just using it as the 2000 interface. the point of this paragraph is that the changes are user specific. A new user by default has the fake mac interface.

Wilton, you can make life a lot easier for yourself by doing a couple of things.

The idea is to use the Win 2000 interface to stabilize Wiss-ta and improve the performance. the side benefit is that you don't have to learn the wista interface.

At the "my computer" icon: Right click, then choose properties.
In the properties window, choose the "advanced" tab
(Wista users: please check my steps, because I am operating from memory. Yes, I have no Wista, I have no wissta today)
IN the performance section of the tab, there should be a button for settings
I don't remember the options, but at the top there should be several options with radio buttons. one should be something like "optimize for performance." I know that is the XP term, but i think you can figure out the wista term from the options.
click ok everywhere to get out to the desktop again

That should make the interface look like 98/2000

The next step is to right click in the empty space of the task bar
Click on the "start menu" tab
choose "Classic"
then "ok" out again to the desktop

Again some of the steps and words may not be quite right, but it is close enough that you should be able to figure it out. Doing these steps makes wissta pretty solid, and you don't have to figure out how to use the fake Mac interface. If the folks on the list chip in, we should be able to get the right steps and terms figured out if you need more help.

Oh Lord, Vista. Remind me later to track down an article I used when I
set up the loan Vista dev machine running around my house. It lets you
fully activate the Administrator login so that you can remove
administration roles from all other accounts. This allows you to run
as a Limited Access account which means *everything* that needs
things, like say access to change the registry, ask for a password.

As an admin account certain things (*cough* Sony DVD DRM *cough*) has
a way of installing itself, even around the UAC. It's very annoying.
So if you care at all about that I'll try to find the link.
