Could be one of the "California coupes" that were built. These were standard SLs only they had a hard top only, no soft top frame or tonneau cover or area for the soft top storage.
It was a legitimate MB chassis, not a modification, but they weren't many of them made from what I know. I looked at one in Orlando a few years ago and scoured it to see if the mounting points were there for the soft top frame, but I couldn't see them. I would check this out in more detail in my SL book for John, but I'm currently in Florida (dammit) and don't have my stuff handy Dan --- On Mon, 6/1/09, Alex Chamberlain <apchamberl...@gmail.com> wrote: > From: Alex Chamberlain <apchamberl...@gmail.com> > Subject: [MBZ] SL "coupe" > To: "Mercedes Discussion List" <mercedes@okiebenz.com> > Date: Monday, June 1, 2009, 1:07 PM > http://portland.craigslist.org/mlt/ctd/1199639703.html > > Are these guys so clueless that they don't know that's an > SL with the > hardtop on? > > Or is the soft top (or its mechanism) damaged/missing, and > they are > hoping to find a clueless buyer who will think the hardtop > is fixed > and never notice? > > _______________________________________ > http://www.okiebenz.com > For new and used parts go to www.okiebenz.com > To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ > > To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: > http://okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com > _______________________________________ http://www.okiebenz.com For new and used parts go to www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com
