I have
an 80s K30 crew cab dually that will get a 12v cummins. Best engine, most
solid suspension (before chevy put that IFS junk in trucks), and a body that
parts are dirt cheap for.

Is there any reason for going with a 12V Cummins over the 24V engine other than the higher price for the newer engine and electronic pump issue? I do like the 80's Chevy crew cabs although the anemic 6.2L isn't that good of an engine. I found an '88 Chevy gasser 2500 2WD crew cab with a small block 350 in it for $2100, good body and decent interior other than a ripped/cracking front bench seat. There was only one thing wrong with it, and that was the gas engine that would get 10-12MPG most of the time. The truck was nice and tight with 73K miles on it. I really don't want to have a HUGE payment every month, but at the same time, I want something that's reliable and solid. What year is your powerchoke? In the family, we've had a '94, a '97 and a '99, all crew cabs, and the '99 seemed to be the best of them all.
