Nobody has mentioned it, but a hanging brake (either regular brake or emergency brake) could cause the symptoms you describe.

Jack the left rear tire off the ground.

While you watch the wheel, have someone start the engine with their foot
on the brake and place the vehicle in gear. (Assuming that you do not
have a locking differential).

turns.

When you are finished the examination, have the driver SLOWLY apply the
brake and place the transmission in park.

This should help pinpoint the problem.
