No, didn't check for12v- but it's easy enough to do. Will check it and
report back.
I understand now...... shortin the switch wuld have proved the switch bad
only if it had started the fans when I shorted it -
It takes a little while but I finally got it ! ;-)

problem
- it's somewhere else. Bad ground? Power to the wire at that switch that
isn't brown? Follow the 12v!
