You should also check the adjustment of the kickdown cable from the accelerator linkage to the tranny. If the plastic screw fitting has broken, the cable may not be operating correctly. Also verify the condition of the tranny shift modulator on the left fender (blue plastic do-dad that looks like a horn). Broken vac/pressure lines will result in very strange shifting behavior.
