I'm also trying to replace the dial type heater blower switch on my 82 240D.  
The dial was getting stiff and it finally broke.  The inner plastic part where 
the dial slides onto broke.  I'm almost certain that it has to do with the 
cable being stiff. So
1. How do I access the switch to replace it.  I bought a new one from thf 
classic center.  I think that I have to remove the radio and access it from 
above the radio opening.  Am I right about this?  Also any tips on radio 
removal on this car.  It is the newer black Becker Europa original to this car 
2. How do I lubricate the cable so that it operates smoothly and I don't break 
the new switch?
