I'm going to clean the back of the wood and the front of the metal with 3M
adhesive remover and then shoe goo the wood to the metal. By the way that 3M
adhesive remover is incredible but boy is it potent (stinks). Make sure you
use gloves before handling that stuff.

I already bought the shoe goo so I'll try that on one piece and see
how I fare. If I don't like it then maybe I'll try the 3m stuff on
the next.

At least shoe goo is reversible, unless the solvent fumes hurt
something, and I think we have confirmation that the solvents in shoe
goo don't hurt dash wood.

At the factory, the dash wood is glued to a metal strip. The ends of the
metal strip are turned up and fit through small slots in the dash. They
are twisted with a pair of pliers on the inside of the dash to affix the
strip and the wood to the dash.

If you really want it reversable, you can remove the metal strip from the
dash (which probably takes removing the dash), glue the wood back onto it,
and then reinstall on the dash.
