I think that whole setup is quite pricey to replace. Might be worth taking it out, cleaning and lubing, then see if it works better.

I don't ever open either of mine. Frankly, I think it's bad engineering
to have a perfectly good steel top, then cut a hole in it and install
and unreliable mechanism which may leave the roof open for weather
entry/damage, and then charge "customer" an insane amount for the
"privilege" of having a hole in an otherwise good steel top. ;<))))))

Subject: [MBZ] SUNROOF DIED, CAME BACK TO LIFE

Sunday I opened the sunroof to enjoy the beautiful weather here, and
then while closing it stopped about 1/4 of the way closed. Fuse was
fine, new fuse did not help, clicking noises from the motor/relay area
but no motion. Discovered the manual closing knob/bolt/thing-a-ma-bob
had been all buggered up by a PO so couldn't use that method.
Neighbor
came over to help when I asked to borrow his 6mm box wrench, which
fits
on the flats of the shaft left exposed with the thing-a-ma-bob
wreckage
was removed. While I worked the sunroof switch he gave it a little
help
with the wrench, and the motor came back to life allowing me to close
the sunroof.

So, time for a new motor/relay assembly? How much pain is caused by
replacing that assembly? Anything else I should do 'while I'm there'?

Very respectfully,
