Ozone does a decent job of breaking down things that cause odors. They
sell air cleaners that use a shielded UV lamp with a small fan to
circulate air, or that use an electrical discharge. Nothing beats
elbow grease to wipe down everything and extract the carpet. The ozone
gets into the duct work and other places you can't get to with a rag.
A buddy used them in his cleaning company. Over a few days they got
rid of most of the lingering toasty smell from fire restorations and
the dead body smell from crime scene cleanups. If nothing else, they
will make it smell like ozone for a while. France used to use Ozone
for water purification instead of Chlorine. Not sure if they still do.
