The guides on my brother's SDL are worn at 275,000 miles -- he's having new guides installed and reamed to fit the valves correctly while rebuilding the engine.

I would think that the 300,000 mile mark is about as far as one can get without doing a valve job on these cars -- even Benz can't make wear-proof engines. The bottom end will be fine, so long as it's not been abused, but the valve guides and seals are toast by that milage.

Pretty cheap for a brand new engine.
