In doing the water pump I had to remove a mystery item from my '83 240D. It lives in front of the air filter and has a hose that comes from the intake manifold and another from the top of the valve cover. It feels like is made of foam and seems to have holes or casting irregularities in the bottom. It also seems like it leaks oil. Its got oil on it and everything below and behind it is covered with oil. That oil has been a mystery to me for awhile since theres really nowhere else it could come from. Older cars don't seem to have it (or at least not the ones I could find on eBay) they seem to have the two hoses connected. Something in the back of my mind says "oil separator" but don't let that lead you anywhere. I've attached a pic (eBay is good for something) for reference. So questions: 1. Are these known to leak oil? 2. Where do I get a replacement? Kaleb? 3. Could I just put a longer hose and take the whole thing out? Thanks! -Curt -------------- next part -------------- A non-text attachment was scrubbed...
