I think the days of the rumble seat are past. Now we have crumple zones and it's not such a good idea to sit the kids in the crumple zone with the number of cell phone yakking idiots driving 6000lb SUVs. Some friends of mine got rear-ended by just such a dingbat Saturday while going down I-24 near Nashville. Damaged their camper enough that they had to leave it behind.
