14" ibook with 1.33ghz G4, no PMU reset switch, can do PRAM, but no
effect. Used install disk, but all I got was the Apple logo, no spin,
then it just froze. Tried Apple Hardware test disk, but no boot, just
goes to Open Firmware error.

Dead PRAM battery. Or dead MB. Plug it in overnight, reset the PMU
(check www.lowendmac.com for directions, I don't know what they are
on that model, but I'll look), then try a re-boot.
If it boots to a gray screen with a question mark, the hard drive is
dead or buggered, you should try to boot with the install disk and
see if you can find and repair the drive.
Boot problems can also be a bad memory chip, or in the case of the
15" Albooks, a logic board failure that "loses" the memory -- if
this happens when it's on, it can write garbage to the drive.
Try the PMU reset, and also reset parameter ram (hold down control-
option-p-r immediately after the chime, hold until it restart FOUR
times (doesn't reset the PMU related stuff until then).
Will boot slowly, if you have a gray rotating wheel, it's rebuilding
the hard drive and you must WAIT until it fails or boots, as it will
just re-try on the next boot attempt.
