One turbo was original, worked fine but audible, mine was a cartridge, brand new, and the other was either a cartridge or total replacement (not my car). All three whined enough to notice. Good air filters and associated plumbing on all three. I figured it was normal.

Mine was bad when I got the car, probably form not using synthetic oil -- I don't know what was used before I got it, but I would guess not synthetic or diesel rated. At any rate, it finally stopped turning at all when cold, making it somewhat worse than sluggish.

It also clattered when I got it, and I'm sure the cam is bad by now, but I don't see how one could install the pushrod "backwards" when it appears completely identical on both ends to me. Worn hole in the head is a possibility, too.

No other signs of wear, but it quit starting a couple years ago, probably a failed shut-off valve as no fuel comes out the injectors. Or another pump rebuild....
