The battery light should come on and if not, your issue might be soemthing
as simple as a burned out charge (battery) bulb.

Subject: [MBZ] charging problem, 560SEL

Messing with my 560 again today. Basically its not charging at all.
Put a different voltage regulator on it from another alternator I had
laying around and it made no difference. Either both were bad(the
replacement regulator had longer brushes) or something else is my
problem. I guess I will probably just have to swap out the whole
alternator. I did notice however that when the key is turned on, and
before the engine is started, the only lights that come on in the
cluster is the o2 light and the SRS light. None of the others, oil
level, coolant level, battery etc come on. Im not sure exactly what the
deal is with that. If the alternator was bad would it cause these
lights to not come on? Or is there some other problem that doesnt allow
the lights to come on and also keeps alternator from charging? Seems I
heard somewhere that if the battery light does not come on either
because its burned out or whatever the alternator will not charge.

Thanks
