I dunno I did the whole deal on my 240D in '08 with all the cheapest components
(PBR for disks and pads? Definitely PBR disks anyway) and just hit the 15,000
mile mark with no complaints.
I did have to replace one caliper but Advance Auto gave me that under the
lifetime warranty.
Oh and I need to do the master cylinder but I hadn't done that previously.

But call
him and ask him what's good, don't just go and buy a PBR or
Brembo
online.
Also note that the front rotors changed during 1980.
