That's the ticket. I griped at the repair guy a little bit, as there is nothing in the manual about this procedure. The wife was the first to notice the odor, as she has a far more sensitive sense of smell than I do.
When we emptied that sump, it was nasty. There was even a couple of coins in it.... Now I just do it every couple of months. Since ours has the worthless $200 pedestal/storage underneath it's easy to do without making a mess. I would add that one of these days I'm taking that beast off the pedestal and getting it closer to the floor - the center of gravity is too high, making it flail around something terrible when it has an unbalanced load. I had to put a 2x4 behind it to keep it from banging a hole in the drywall when it really got rowdy.
