You're absolute correct; I should have said , "The blinking light is MEANT to indicate the driver's intent to turn in that direction." As we all know, there are too many drivers not only oblivious to the purpose of the turn signal system and its operation, but even to the presence of other traffic/drivers around them. They seem to think they have a "modified" IFR clearance - go wherever they want without any concern for other traffic - 'don't have to watch for other traffic; somebody else will keep 'em safe.

Strange, I was just this morning explaining to my class that the turn signal bore no noticable relationship to the direction of the car...

In fact in MA you'll find people that will drive 5 miles with a turn signal on and turn it OFF to indicate a turn.

Like I said, "Stay right." Even on the round abouts. Indicators? Turn
indicators? Some vehicles have amber on rear; some have red. Regardless of
the color, if its blinking, that's the way the driver's gonna turn.
