Another thought would be to have the old hole welded up and then drill a new
hole and tap it.
My local weld shop guy can weld cast iron, aluminum, steel, stainless. He can't
weld unknown magnesium alloys though.
I was just there today having an aluminum casting filled and drilled. He had a
magnesium dock plate for a forklift there that he had tried to repair. The
welds kept cracking because he couldn't find the right alloy rod/wire/fill rod.
Live and learn.

Every municipality needs a semi-retired welder/machinist to open a shop.

If yours doesn't have one, I am sure my local welder fellow can get it done for
betweeen a hundred to ahundred and fifty bucks.
Send it along and I will get it done for you.

Just another thought.
