Better be very straight -- if warped, it's not going to seal.
The correct sealant is a black RTV, don't remember which one. Small
amounts only, the pan and block are machined very flat so you won't
need much.

Permatex form-a-gasket #2. Usually in a small can with a brush on
the lid. One will last a good long time. Use rubbing alcohol to
get it off your hands.
