Now you make me wish I still had it. Sent it to the church garage sale years ago. Wife wanted a new one and I try not to argue with her about things that are essentially within her domain.

Vacuum tubes do lose cathode emissivity as they age.
Any other cause should be cheaply repairable.

If you'd ever have opened up that Amana you'd know why
it lasted so long.  Seriously high build quality.
