I saw a killer tornado in about 2001 that was probably more than 5 miles wide. Maybe as much as 10. It was 15-20 miles away, and it was so huge that it was really hard to see any motion. Huge black cloud reaching almost to the ground, then a little daylight under the cloud on each side of where the tornado was on the ground. the "funnel" was vastly wider than it was tall. Perhaps 20 to 100 times wider than tall. Nothing at all like a TV tornado.

First everyone in the building went into the johns, then after 15-20 minutes that got boring and people started drifting out to watch the storm. if you picked a landmark and watched for a minute, you could see that it was moving, but because it was so huge, the movement at 60-70 MPH from west to east was barely perceptible.

Friend at lunch Monday said he saw area of tornado damage near Dunn on Sunday 5 miles wide. A 5-mile wide tornado on Earth? Maybe, combination tornado and other "stuff." How 'bout it, you meteorological experts?

My niece and fam stopped in Dunn NC to get gas and she got a vid of a tornado off a coupla miles, it looked to be quite wide. They all went into the station store, and they huddled in back while everyone else was up at the windows looking out at it all.

We drove through NC during that big storm, saw lots of trees down. Traffic was abysmal. Near Selma, after 45 minutes or so of traffic jam on '95, we exited

Glad to hear that you made it through, and no persons or MBs were harmed!
