Good to know, as I can hear the difference (early CD's were horrible,
mp3's only marginally better). Somehow I got stuck with somewhat
wider the usual color perception and hearing ability (do cathode ray
TV's bother your ears form the high pitched squeal? 15kHz horizontal
driver circuit.) and almost perfect pitch. Very annoying.
Vinyl, with an excellent condition stylus, top of the line cartridge,
and clean vinyl, has much better dynamic range and "color" than
digitized anything. The dynamic range is compressed using the
electronic analog system developed in the 1920's, and sounds great.
Digital anything is compressed with digital filters, and they are NOT
as good.
I suspect most people can't hear the difference, and my hearing isn't
what it used to be (too much noise at work and from lawn mowers and
cars). A great relief for me, as hearing all the mistakes and off
notes is a pain.
