Oh man, you've cracked a can of worms about like an oil thread! For descending a steep grade a manual has HUGE advantages. However if you're just driving dirt roads scouting around for game an auto is way easier. They can also be good in a big mud hole because the shift doesn't lose all your torque... Compromises either way.

It seems to me that in some offroad situations, that there would be a benefit to an auto? t's not the yellow that bothers me, it's the automatic tranny in a 300GD.
