This morning i took off in the van, and heard what sounded like a wheel bearing grinding, but everything was ok last night....

Turned around, got it parked at home, got out and smelled burned rubber. Checked 4 tires, all cool. Checked the serp belt, it was ok, and no smell under the hood. Went back toward the drivers door and smell burned rubber again. Turns out the bottom spring mount on the strut rusted off and was riding on the tire tread neat the inside of the tire.

Weird!

Guess I add putting new struts on the van to the list of jobs to do quickly before it snows.

Lucky I was not 300 or more miles away. Heading out on a 300 mile trip in the morning. Won't be taking that vehicle or the 300D.

Dieselhead
The nut that holds the wheel is the cause of 99% of auto accidents and the majority of roadside breakdowns, and is the cause of many engine failures.

Does YOUR car need to have the nut that holds the wheel replaced?
