BZZZZT WRONG! (haven't seen anybody do that in awhile!)

I believe by the manual its "Up to 25mph". In my case we got up to ~20mph, I 
slipped the shifter into drive and the car was running just about instantly.

Yes they can but only when towed @ > 45 mph

I was too a few months ago when the starter in my 190D quit and after begging a 
tug from a coworker I drove home with no issues. My coworkers said auto-trans 
cars couldn't be pull started...
