I have a '77 om617.912, and the shutoff valve doesn't. I've almost no vacuum on the valve, I can pump and pump and it won't turn off the car. I don't see any oil in the vacuum lines, for what that's worth, but it sure seems dead to me.
I plugged both ends so as to avoid getting oil up in the rest of the system, and trudged on over to Q... but a new one of these things is $200! Surely there is another way?
