One of the strongest forces pulling for keeping the borders open is the Big Three in Detroit. They have suppliers in Ontario, and thanks to modern "just-in-time delivery" production methods, border delays hit them hard. The Ambassador Bridge between Detroit and Windsor is the busiest crossing on the northern border.
