Does your compressor have a speed sensor on it? I don't think a 617
engine does, but you should check.
Having the AC compressor drop off line after a few minutes in later
cars with a serpentine belt is a signal that the belt is bad and
slipping, when the compressor slows down the KLIMA cuts it off until
the ignition is cycled to prevent tossing the belt.
Don't know if it is true of an 85 W123 through.
You could also have problems with the KLIMA that re-soldering won't
fix, too.
