I think I spent $250 on my Lincoln HandyMig and it was worth every penny. In 
retrospect I wouldn't bother with gas (I've not bought it but the welder came 
equipped) as for the stuff I do flux wire is just fine.

In your case as Mike says you'd need an expander or cut a piece and wrap it 
around the outside to make up the space. I can fill a lot with weld but its 
brittle...
