My 240D rolling average is 28mpg over 120,000 miles in 2 cars.

The '78 240D gets 28mpg average pretty much no matter what, it'll be
interesting to see it go down a bit with bio-diesel and it'll go down to maybe
26mpg if I hold it to 85mph all day but otherwise 28mpg. I got my '83 240D as
high as 32mpg at 60mph highway runs. Never had to opportunity to take it a
really long distance, I always thought it might have made 35mpg if I could have
run it at 60mph for a full tank of fuel.

My '84 190D 2.2l auto will easily do 40mpg if I take it easy, otherwise it
averages a solid 38mpg. The newer 60x engines are more efficient, the car is
smaller, lighter and has a lower co-efficeient of drag.
