On a related note, why -don't- flood cars have engine fires?

RQ: What do they use to put _out_ fires?

Seems like they would as soon as the battery starts shorting. Is it just
that there is so little to burn in a normal car, you really have to be
unlucky to spark the gas lines? Or do they burn in such a limited
fashion that they don't do much structural damage?

Not enough energy in the typical battery to boil anything
to the ignition point. Also, the voltage is not high enough
to discharge the battery at a ruinous rate. Salt water is
not a direct short. Not like a wrench across the terminals.

Now an EV? A differnt fish kettle. More electrons, more voltons,
and a much more fragile/flammable battery. Many many more Joules,
and they don't need any stinkin' atmosphere present to 'win'.
