I can sell a new master cylinder for far less than a rebuild kit. Why
rebuild?

Not that it's a direct comparison, but last time I bought a rebuilt master
cylinder at a FLAPS (was for a Toyota) I had to return two before I got a
good one.  Lifetime warranty was honored, but it was a PITA to have to R&R
the thing three times.
