I don't think Randy ever retired, IIRC when he went back to the dealer he effectively shuttered the business so as not to compete with his employer. He still had his NOS stuff on eBay but he wasn't actively pursuing the parts business.
He is still very much alive. I see his posts on the Hitler list regularly.
