Canberra British designed, wasn't it? Licensed to Martin for production as
B-57. A LOT of difference. B-57 was small/medium twin-engine bomber with
wide, straight, thick wings. B-47 was medium/heavy (max gross weight 230
klb) six-engine jet, long-range, nuclear bomber by Boeing with sleek, thin
wings swept back at 30° (I think), a design much-copied by every heavy jet
airliner since, 'cept Comet.
The B-47-like empennage is visible on most jet airliners, including 707
since mid-fifties. B-47 is known by many as "father of modern jet
airliners."

What's the connect between the (Australian designed?) Canberra and B-47s
if any?
Gerry
Aussie Air Force flew some B-47's for a few years for weather recon, etc.
Probably in '60's or early '70's.

Yeah right, those things a blind monkey could do with two screwdrivers
and a hammer, I am talking about a prescion piece of engineering, forged
in the darkest parts of the black forest by magical elves.
However to show that i am a most generous and giving person I'll give a
belated attaboy for keeping the war machines flying and them nasty
commies in their box.
Hendrik
who has seen a B-52 in Darwin but not a B-47

BTW, 'just remembered: I used to have B-47's and jet engines lying all
over the hanger floor; put 'em back together; worked fine; never got an
ATTABOY nor decent pay for it. ;<)
