Just a reminder that if your floor shifter is not crisp and precise,
you need to replace the bushings on the shift linkages under the car.
For older (pre-123) floor shifts, there is also a nylon ball in the
floor shifter. For those with column shift, (pre-123) there is a
nylon ball on the shift lever that needs to be replaced, plus the
ball sockets at the bast of the steering column, and the bushings at
the transmission.
Keeping the shifter in good shape is inexpensive, but sometimes time
consuming. A channellock is useful/necessary.

NO GO in reverse!! Just revved up a bit and didn't move. OK,
then forward? Yep, goes perfect!
The two symptoms suggest the shifter bushings or adjustment, the former
because the neutral-lockout switch wasn't being put in the right
position, the latter because the transmission's lever wasn't placed where
it should have been.
When you have the problem, have someone crawl under the car and wiggle
the transmission's lever to see if it will move to the correct position.
