That was what it had to begin with, 32 years ago. We painted a few years
later. I won't be scraping or sanding to bare wood in more than a few
spots if I can help it. The wood is rough sawn and that would change the
look.

You could do a solid stain instead of paint, once you get everything
sanded and scraped. It tends to just fade rather than peel but you
likely would need to redo it ever coupla-three years.

I am stuck with the task of painting the house.
Not a huge job as most of it is stucco and not painted.
Just trim to do and much of that - soffits, fascia, gable ends - was
covered in aluminum a few years back so not terrible.
The house has the boards in the stucco - faux tudor look and the
boards are brown.
The window trim is off white.
I have, unfortunately, left it longer than I should and am thus going
to have to do some sanding and scraping in spots.
Always a struggle to find the time that matches the weather - not too
hot or cold or too wet or too many bugs etc. Easy to put off to
another year.
My point in posting this, is that last evening I was working on it
and wondering how many of you folks have the same issues to deal with
vs how many have gone to some more modern low maintenance situation.
I profess to like wood and not want things like plastic windows, but
one needs to do the maintenance if one wishes to stick to the old ways.
Some of my neighbors have covered their houses with vinyl siding and
have replaced the wooden windows. I am not really a fan of that sort
of thing. if my pockets were deeper I might be interested in
something like the pre-finished Hardy (Hardie?) board siding but that
would not really help me much as I don't paint the stucco.
