I have 3 Mbps DSL. It's fast enough for Google or Skype voice-only calls, but not for video. I could get the DSL without phone service, but it goes down often enough that I feel it's worth paying for the POTS as a an emergency backup. A surprising percentage of the USA--30 or 40%?--is still on dialup, last I heard.
