so do the clamps around the tranny fluid lines,  but after 20 years, they wear 
out...then metal on metal till you got an  ATF gusher. I imagine you could also 
replace the line clamps with new  ones...?

EACH AND EVERY metal clamp on any airplane on which I have worked (and that
is quite a few) that goes around a wire bundle has a 1/4" rubber gasket as
an integral part of the assembly.

I don't think oil cooler lines are nearly as  robust and when they start to 
leak, you better replace them (PITA) or  you could end up with dead engine 
syndrome in a heartbeat.

But the rubber pads in the transmission line clamps do not. 
The steel lines for the tranny fluid are clamped to the engine.
If the line directly touches the clamps, it will eventually wear through.
Cut some pieces of fuel hose and pad those tranny lines with it.
