You may remember my buying a '98 Jetta last week. At first everything was happiness and smiles. I got a new battery, fixed some rust, figured out the sunroof and internal light problems but now a real challenge has arisen. No headlights, daytime running lights, high beams, turn signals, emergency flashers, wipers, or washers. Strange no? Common wisdom seemed to indicate that this was the ignition switch, the electrical part behind the lock. Easy enough to replace EXCEPT the screw is hidden until you take the lock portion out. I won't go into details but suffice to say this led me to a junkyard for a new steering column and lock assembly... Anyway today dodging thunderstorms (we had some real corkers yesterday) I managed to get everything installed with the new ignition switch and nothing has changed...

Car starts fine, has power, turbo spools up.

I *think* my fatal error came when I was troubleshooting the blowing of fuse #21 (sunroof et al) which led me to mess around the fuse box and now I hope I haven't screwed myself.

Why do I play with old cars?
