What model? 124s have a foam-covered flap under the wiper transmission that activates the recirc function of the ACC. When the foam starts to rot it blows onto the heater core and melts fragrantly. Solution is to take out everything in the way and scrape the flap clean. No idea if or how this relates to 123s.
